Checklist of the birds of Wildsumaco Wildlife Sanctuary

                                   and Adjacent Areas
                                        Compiled by Jonas Nilsson
                                        Updated 27 February 2016

522 Species                                                                                                                       24 Additional species (in parentheses) need confirmation

This list provides information on relative abundance of all bird species recorded within the Wildsumaco Wildlife Sanctuary and neighboring areas. This area stretches from Loreto Road (where the main highway crosses Rio Pucuno, elevation 1150 m) up to the border of Gran Sumaco National Park (1600 m).

Birds that almost exclusively have been found at either lower (below 1200m) or higher   (above 1500m) elevations are marked with LOW or HIGH, respectively.

Birds found only in or along streams and rivers are marked RIVER.

Birders coming on your own, please use our Wildsumaco Lodge checklist.  It provides information based on how difficult each species is to see without a guide and without playback.
